WHAT IS CMS?
= Content Management Systems (CMS)
If the content on a website is changed often and new content has to be added, a CMS can reduce the effort considerably.
What is a cms?
A Content Management System or CMS is a software with which users can create and manage website content without programming knowledge. The main task is to display target group specific content for web browsers on different devices.
The systems are used to insert current news or blog entries on the website without the help of programmers. This way, the work can be done by every employee and can be done with more flexibility.
What must a CMS be able to do?
As mentioned above, a CMS should be able to allow different responsible persons to work with the system and to identify different roles. It makes sense if there is a definition of the processing procedures that can be used as a workflow.
Another helpful feature is the possibility to send messages to the responsible persons if something changes in the content.
In addition, exporting content from other environments and importing it into the CMS is another important function of content management systems.
How does a CMS work?
The Content Management System runs either on its own server or on a provider’s server (e.g. the online version of WordPress). CMS websites dynamically build the page from databases and page templates. For example, the system can select a text template from the content management system and insert content from which the system then builds the layout for the post. However, this can cause the page loading time to increase somewhat.
The most important content management systems
- Wordpress
The CMS offers a quick setup and many free design templates (themes) and other extensions. By the URL structures, which are designed search engine friendly, it also helps in marketing and visibility for the website. An advantage of Wordpress is the intuitive handling with which a professional website can be created. - Joomla!
Beginners and advanced users can use many functions in the basic version. There are also online manuals and support to make the start easier. - TYPO3
This system is more suitable for stores or larger portals and is always adapted by a development team. Because there is for example the possibility of legal administration. There are innumerable functions, whereby adjustments can be made again and again, whereby it needs a little more training than with the solutions above.
