Home office with children — tips and employment opportunities
Due to current events, parents are faced with the challenge of keeping their children busy during the school-free period while they themselves work in the home office. Because this often leads to difficulties, we have a few tips for you that simplify everyday life and employment opportunities for the children so that school at home does not become a stress factor. Tips for your own home office have also been summarized here.
Organizational details
First of all, a weekly schedule and structure for each day should be created together with the children. For example, set a time for learning: the children start after breakfast.
In order to avoid the children getting in the way all the time because of a question, it is important to include times when the children can ask questions about their tasks. This can easily be done during the breaks that you would take anyway in your own work. Afterwards, everyone can get back to their tasks. Nevertheless, common break times should also be designed in such a way that the common lunch or dinner is not missed out.
Next, both the parents’ workplace and the children’s workplace should be well structured and orderly. The children should be able to concentrate well and not be distracted all the time.
In addition, clear rules should be established, such as quiet when a meeting is in progress.
Ideas/ games
- rain trap (game)
You will need a bowl, a small plastic bag, a broom style and adhesive tape. The bowl is attached to the broom style with adhesive tape and the children can then collect the rain and see how much comes together. - table tennis blowing contest
You will need a table and a table tennis ball and preferably two or four children. The hands are crossed behind the back and must not be used and the table tennis ball is in the middle of the table. The aim is to blow the ball to the opponent’s side and to bring it down. - music and stories
These are always good ways to entertain the children. Different songs can be played, to which the children can dance and sing or listen to a story. For this purpose TigerBox has just launched a campaign where children have one month of free access to a selection of audio books and children’s music from 23.03.2020: https://aktion.tigerversum.ch/1monat (valid until 24.04.2020, no subscription necessary).
How about if the children then draw their favourite part of the audio book? - building caves
If the child is given the materials, it can occupy itself independently and live out its creativity. - painting stones
The child can paint the stones independently and work creatively again. - mandalas
