In the age of digitalisation, working and structures in companies are also changing. But what challenges does mobile working bring with it?
Definition
The term “Work 4.0” deals with the influence of digitisation on work. The working method is not limited to one place. Work processes must therefore adapt to changes. In the future, work will become increasingly networked, permeable and flexible.
Advantages
- Increase in efficiency
Often mobile working is already stipulated in employment contracts in the form of business trips, but it is also popular with employees, as it allows them to work flexibly from any location and time can be arranged differently, which improves the work-life balance. This is particularly beneficial for employees with children. - Working with the Cloud
By accessing data in the cloud, you can work from anywhere. For this to work, the applications must always be available.
Projects are completed faster
Projects can be accelerated by mobile access and mobile implementation of tasks. Messaging services or video conferences can be used for this purpose, which can almost replace the possibility of e-mail. - More motivation
Furthermore, the sense of responsibility has a positive effect on motivation. As a result of the flexibility gained, the employees are more efficient and have a better relationship with the company.
Challenges
- Working hours
Because of the lack of time recording, there is a risk that employees work longer so that they do not appear to be working too little. This is why overtime is often not reported. - Separation between private and work
Because of the independent division it can become difficult to separate leisure from work, which could endanger the work-life balance - less team commitment
The time that is otherwise spent in the company with other employees, and which is just lost, can lead to a deterioration in teamwork. - Data protection
When working at different locations, data protection must also be taken into account, as certain IT security measures must of course be observed. Caution should be exercised when using public WLAN, for example. Furthermore, it should also be regulated that the devices are only used for business purposes.
