Agile working in corona times
Of course it is best to be able to work together directly and on site when working agile. Putting teams together can help solve problems quickly and avoid waiting times. Because this was increasingly impossible with Corona, this is a challenge for companies.
Companies that have had their teams self-organized for a long time find it much easier to adapt to the new situation. The teams can take on more responsibility themselves and must trust the employees. Agility means being able to react flexibly to new conditions, so it is easier for companies that already give the teams a lot of personal responsibility to find new solutions.
Virtual agile work
Of course it is also possible to work virtually agile. In Daily Scrum a video call and a split screen is usually sufficient. In addition, the Backlog Refinement (what that is can be found here) can also be done online. There are several ways to work together like online whiteboards, where everybody can write his notes or a common video conference, where everybody can share his screen, for example MS Teams, Jira or Confluence.
Basic concept of agile working
Agile working means dispensing with central control and trusting the employees. The benefits of agility become clear, for example, when dealing with unforeseeable events or the ability to constantly adapt to goals.
Tips for agile working
- Encourage personal initiative and the ability to act
Through the self-organized teams, the employees can independently reflect on what has happened and apply what they have learned. - Living transparency
If each knows what the other is doing, meaningful improvements can be discussed. The agile leaders should support this by making decisions together as a team.
