AGILE PRINCIPLES WITH REGARD TO PROJECT MANAGEMENT

There are three important areas in agile project management:

• Ensuring that the development team is productive and that it can sustainably increase productivity
• Stakeholders should receive all information about progress without the development team having to interrupt their work because they are asked for status updates
• Process requests for new features as they occur so that they can be included in the development process

The goal of agile working is to produce the best product that can be published, with a special focus on planning and execution of the work. This goal is pursued through open communication and the avoidance of distraction.
The following principles are especially important for project management:

1. changes are accepted even late in the development process, because the processes of changes can be a competitive advantage for customers
2. the agile way of working brings the development forward sustainably
3. simplicity is decisive

Advantages of agile project management

• Costs can be saved by the fast market introduction. Due to the agile principles, development starts earlier and the agile way of working minimizes the previous extensive planning and documentation.
• The self-managing teams reduce the management effort that would be required in other teams, for example telling developers how to do their tasks that would be required in other teams
• Agile teams determine themselves how much work they can do and can thus determine which goals they can achieve. The responsibility lies with the development team itself
• Because the development is divided into short sprints, the goals of each sprint can be met more easily and changes can be made for the following sprints
• Within an iteration, planning, elaboration of requirements, development, testing and demonstration of functionalities are carried out. The reason for this is that the risk of working too long in the wrong direction is reduced
• Productivity is promoted by a constant pace of development
